Ramon Dekkers, a Dutch kickboxer and eight time Muay Thai world champion, has passed away at 43 years old. Bomroep Brabant reports that he died after suffering a heart attack while riding his bicycle in his hometown of Breda in The Netherlands.
According to bystanders, Dekkers felt lightheaded before collapsing in a tunnel. Attempts by those around him and emergency services to revive the renown kickboxing star were unsuccessful.
During Dekkers’ 20 year career, he became the first foreigner to win the title of Thai Boxer of the Year and closed out that part of his life with a record of 186-33-2.
He last competed in a superfight decision loss to Joerie Mes at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2006 in Amsterdam. He lost by submission in his only MMA appearance against UFC veteran Duane Ludwig in 2005.
