Shahbulat Shamhalaev Replaces Daniel Straus, Meets Champion Pat Curran At Bellator 95

Shahbulat Shamhalaev won’t have to wait long for his Bellator featherweight title shot against Pat Curran.

They will meet at Bellator 95 after it was announced yesterday that Daniel Straus had to bow out from his title shot due to a broken hand suffered in training. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney confirmed the change today.

Curran made his first title defense at Bellator 85 in January. He took a split-decision win over Patricio “Pitbull” Freire to open Bellator’s debut on Spike TV.

After three knockouts, Shamhalaev won the Season 7 tournament. He competed last Thursday in the finals of the tournament against Rad Martinez, after the fight was delayed several times. Shamhalaev has nine career knockouts.

Bellator 95 is on April 4 from Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. It’s the final show of Season 8.
