Bantamweights Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen have been tabbed as the new main event for April’s The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. The bout, which was confirmed by UFC president Dana White, replaces the previously scheduled UFC flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga.
UFC officials confirmed late Tuesday night that Johnson had suffered an injury and would not be able to make the bout on April 13 at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Faber (27-6) is coming off a first round submission victory over Ivan Menjivar this past weekend at UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche. He is undefeated in his last six non-title fights, but is 0-5 in championship matches.
Jorgensen (14-6) sports a similar 3-2 UFC mark as Faber, a fellow ex-WEC fighter. He submitted John Albert in late 2012 to snap a two-fight losing skid.
“Me n (Faber) gonna putting on damn show at (TUF 17 Finale),” Jorgensen posted on Twitter. “Crazy I wouldn’t be fighting if he (doesn’t) talk me into (it) in college!”
