Urijah Faber, Matt Riddle, Demetrious Johnson: The Morning News Roundup – 2.27.13

If fighters were playing cards, the deck that is MMA was shuffled like crazy yesterday. Welterweight TUF veteran Matt Riddle got a pink slip after failing a post-drug test for marijuana after his winning scrap at UFC on Fuel TV 7, while Demetrious Johnson injured himself in training and is out of his match against John Moraga – which was supposed to be the headlining bout for the TUF 17 Finale. Taking Johnson and Moraga’s place are Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen, because, well, why not? And then there’s Bellator, and the championship bout between Pat Curran and Daniel Straus, which is now off because Straus broke his hand. Playing cards all over the place! Here’s your news!

• Here’s MMAFighting talking about the Riddle situation. So does this mean we can expect him in the next Bellator welterweight tournament?

• Here’s FightLine with the news of Johnson’s injury. And here’s MMAFrenzy talking about Faber and Jorgensen as the replacements.

Straus and Curran were supposed to get it on at Bellator 95 on April 4. Oh well.

• Sometimes fighters who fail to make the grade on TUF return to a life mundane, maybe tending bar somewhere or bouncing or toiling in the MMA minor league for whatever paychecks they can get. Not Justin Wren! Wren went on an aid mission to the Eastern Congo!
