It appears as if Chris Weidman – barring any future injuries – will indeed receive a shot at UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. UFC president Dana White stopped by UFC Tonight Tuesday and confirmed that those are the tentative plans.
White stated, though, that the process with Silva is always a long one, as “The Spider” still wants super-fights before he retires with the likes of Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones.
“He’s 38 years old – the guy still looks and fights like he’s 25 – but you don’t know how much time he has left,” White said. “Anderson still has to sign a new UFC contract. It’s either going to be an eight- or 10-fight deal and he’s going to have to fight Chris Weidman in there somewhere.”
The proposed date for the bout centers around the beginning of July, though nothing has been confirmed by the UFC.
