Wanderlei Silva rose to prominence by dominating in PRIDE for several years. Now, “The Axe Murderer” is set to return to Japan, taking on Brian Stann this Saturday night at UFC on FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann.
The card will take place from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, and Silva hopes to have a strong showing in front of his former fans.
“Let’s fill up the Saitama Super Arena,” Silva said. “A lot of people will be there. I am sure this event will sell out. Let’s show the world the strength of the Japanese crowd.”
Silva (34-12-1) has hit a bit of a rough patch over the past few years, going just 2-4 in his last six fights. He once had a four-year run where he did not lose a bout, with the majority of those matches coming in the now-defunct PRIDE promotion.
Still, as evident by his finish of Cung Le in late 2011, Silva has knockout power in his body.
“I’m coming off two ‘Fight of the Night’ bonuses and I want another bonus this time. This one I want for ‘Knockout of the Night,'” Silva said. “I will get this bonus; I am going to win a bonus.”
