Daniel Straus has broken his hand during training and withdrawn from his featherweight championship fight at Bellator 95. A replacement is being searched out to challenge current champion Pat Curran.
It’s not the first time the fight has been delayed. Curran suffered a broken orbital bone which caused his encounter with Patricio “Pitbull” Freire to be pushed to January’s Bellator 85. Freire had earned the right to challenge for the title first. Curran took a split-decision to retain his title aginst him.
Straus earned the title shot by winning the Season 6 tournament by way of three decisions. His first chance in a Bellator tournament saw him loss in the finals of Season 4 to Freire. As a way to remain active, Straus returned at Bellator 78 in October to choke out Alvin Robinson.
There is no timetable for Straus’ return.
Bellator 95 concludes Season 8 for the promotion. It takes place April 4 from Revel Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
