The stakes for UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo have never been higher. Late Monday night, MMAjunkie.com confirmed with UFC president Dana White Aldo would earn a future UFC lightweight title shot by defeating Anthony Pettis.
Aldo and Pettis are set to meet in August. Over the weekend, White informed members of the media that “Scarface” was refusing to face Pettis, but changed his mind upon receiving the promise of a shot at the 155-pound title.
Aldo, who initially informed the Brazilian site Tatame of his push for a championship bout at lightweight, was bothered by Pettis earning a featherweight title fight despite having yet to compete in the division.
It remains unknown if Aldo would surrender his featherweight title if he moves up to 155 at this time.
