Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal Defends Criticism Of Bellator 90 Loss

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal was considered a lock to win Bellator’s Season 8 light heavyweight tournament. Then Lawal ran into the spinning back fist of Emanuel Newton and that idea was history.

Newton took a first round knockout over Lawal at Bellator 90 last Thursday.

Some have criticized Lawal’s technique in the fight as he had his hands down often. The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion doesn’t agree.

“If you watch it, when he missed with his right hand, I threw a right hand and then he came with the spinning back fist so he kind of caught me in the act of punching, but no excuses,” said Lawal on Fight Hype. “I’m good and I will be back, and hopefully I get to fight him again in the future.”

It was the first time Lawal has been knocked out in his career.

Lawal is now 1-1 since joining Bellator. He finished Przemyslaw Mysiala to make it to the semifinals against Newton.

The win places Newton in the finals against Mikhail Zayats. They are expected to meet before the current season ends in early April.
