UFC 157, Jose Aldo, Miesha Tate: The Morning News Roundup – 2.25.13

In case you missed it, history was made on Saturday night when the UFC put champ Ronda Rousey into the cage and had her defend her belt against game challenger Liz Carmouche. Yes, it was the first time two females battled it out in the Octagon – in a main event bout, no less – and in terms of meeting and exceeding all expectations of thrills, spills and excitement, the momentous scrap delivered. Forever more, when the topic of women’s MMA comes up, UFC 157’s Rousey vs. Carmouche tussle will be mentioned as the sport’s biggest turning point. Giddyup to that! Here’s your news!

• Here’s MMAJunkie scribe Ben Fowlkes talking about the impact of the fight. Here’s Dave Doyle doing the same. And here’s Rousey herself saying the bout lived up to the hype.

• Here’s the post-fight media scrum, which is always good for some juicy news tidbits. For example, did you know Jose Aldo is balking at a match-up between him and Anthony Pettis?

• Who’s next to challenge UFC champ Rousey? Those waters a somewhat cloudy right now, but here’s former Strikeforce champ Miesha Tate casting her hat into the ring. If you’ll recall, when Rousey dethroned Tate as champ, she tore off the poor girl’s arm and threw it into the crowd. So yeah, good luck with that, Tate.
