Dennis Bermudez and Matt Grice left the fans with a fight that was tough to follow. Their performance earned Fight of the Night and some are calling it the best action this year.
Besides a win, Bermudez got what he wanted.
“I was talking to my manger before the fight and was like, ‘I want a black eye,’” said Bermudez on MMA HEAT. “All my fights I’ve gone into, I just get scuffs. Matt Grice delivered.”
It was Bermudez’s third win since dropping down to featherweight last year.
In the last round, Bermudez almost had the knockout and referee Herb Dean appeared ready to stop the fight, but backed off as Grice regained his composure. That final round allowed Bermudez to take the split-decision win.
UFC president Dana White praised both fighters after the fight and said while Grice lost, that he doesn’t consider it one since the two put on a great performance. He went on that fights like that is what he wants to see.
The loss made Grice 1-2 since returning to the UFC after being released in 2009.
