Michael Chiesa made his first appearance since winning The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) over the summer at UFC 157. He did what he does best, submit opponents and his recent causality was Anton Kuivanen.
“I knew if I kept it standing all of round one, then I could start timing by takedowns and mixing it up,” said Chiesa to MMA Fighting. “If I get your back and there are two minutes left, you’re done. That’s my specialty. I’m like a backpack.”
That was exactly what Chiesa did after surviving the first round. With over three minutes left in round two, Chiesa got the back and locked in a rear-naked choke. Kuivanen had no choice but to tap.
Chiesa is now 9-0 with seven of those wins coming by submission. The last six fights have ended with a choke and only Kuivanen made it out of the opening round.
TUF winner concluded that he puts himself in the top of the lightweight division and will be champion one day.
