Nah-Shon Burrell entered UFC 157 knowing it could be his only chance inside the Octagon. With the recent cuts by the UFC and talk of more, Burrell knew if he didn’t win that his run with the promotion would be short-lived.
“I had to come in with a win or I probably wouldn’t be back,” said Burrell to MMA Fighting. “I’m glad to get this fight out of the way. Even though it was on short notice, I think I’ll be getting the call again.”
Burrell took a decision against newcomer Yuri Villefort to open the card.
Leading up to yesterday’s fight, Burrell wasn’t sure what was next after not appearing on the final Strikeforce card. He was scheduled for the September Strikeforce show before it was cancelled. Out of Strikeforce, he was 2-1 and lost in his final outing for them to Chris Spang in the first round.
Burrell missed weight in his UFC debut and believes a portion of his purse will be forfeited.
