Rick Hawn was one of the backers for Ronda Rousey as she entered the Octagon to defend her UFC title against Liz Carmouche. The lightweight thanked Rousey for showcasing her judo, which he believes doesn’t get enough credit.
“She jumped into the mainstream and put judo on the map,” said Hawn on Fight Hub TV. “It’s kind of under the radar in the sport of MMA.”
Hawn is friends with Rousey and said the two exchange text in between their busy schedules.
Like all her other fights, Rousey needed only round one to submit Carmouche at UFC 157. It was her first title defense since the UFC introduced females into their roster.
The last time Hawn saw action was for Bellator’s debut on Spike TV in January. At Bellator 85, he took a second round loss via rear naked choke to lightweight champion Michael Chandler. Hawn’s next step hasn’t been divulged.
