When the UFC debuts in Sweden, their main event might only be three rounds as the Swedish Federation doesn’t have a permit to sanction five round fights. There are actions in motion with the Martial Arts Delegation to make the fight a five rounder.
“We’ve put forth our arguments for why this should be allowed and validity for why this is a safe match,” said George Sallfeldt, president of the Swedish MMA Federation to Nordic MMA. “Hopefully we’ll see a five rounder. At this point we don’t know.”
The main event for UFC on FUEL TV sees Alexander Gustafsson with home country advantage as he meets Strikeforce import Gegard Mousasi.
Gustafsson currently sits as one of the top names in the light heavyweight division after a win over former champion Mauricio Rua. He is 7-1 inside the Octagon and has finished five of those fights.
Mousasi comes in after submitting Mike Kyle in the first round of the final Strikeforce card. He had four wins out of that promotion. He’s also undefeated for DREAM with seven wins and was their light heavyweight champion before he vacated it after signing with the UFC.
Sallfeldt expects a decision shortly. UFC on FUEL TV is on April 14 from the Ericsson Globe Arena.
