UFC 157: Jon Manley Vs. Neil Magny

Jon Manley vs. Neil Magny

A pair of Ultimate Fighter alums square off at welterweight next, as Jon Manley (7-2) battles Neil Magny (7-2). Both advanced to the semifinals of the 16th season of TUF. The referee is Herb Dean.

Round 1: Manley with a flurry and he ties Magny up against the cage. Manley attempting a big double-leg, but Magny fends it off. Manley working hard for the takedown, and Magny fighting just as hard to defend it. Several rounds of booing by the crowd after that thrilling first bout, as this one has featured more jockeying against the fence than anything. Not worth booing in my book, but to each his own. Break from the clinch and Magny with a solid kick to the body. Manley working again for a takedown, but is denied for the seventh time this round. Solid combo lands by Magny to finish off the first five minutes.

Round 2: Nate Marquardt, in the corner of Magny, asks him if he is having fun and offers a big pat on the back between rounds. Manley finally gets the takedown, and is working in side control. Manley gets too high and Magny rolls him right over to his own back and is in side control himself, doing damage. Pair of knees to the body by Magny connect. Magny in a dominant position, landing several big blows to the head. Manley fights to his feet and is working for another takedown. Magny has Manley tied up and hits another knee to the body. Massive right, and a knee, followed by a takedown from Magny as we go under a minute.

Round 3: Magny looking to counter a fast-charging Manley, landing a solid right. Another right, but Manley connects with his own left. Magny with a takedown, and goes 12-to-6 with a big right. Dropping down and Manley goes to guard. Manley looking for an armbar, as he has it tied up with his legs. Just under three minutes left, so plenty of time for Manley to work this submission. Magny fights out of the armbar and moves to mount, landing a nice right and some ground-and-pound. Magny goes to take the back, but is unable to do anything with the position. The ref steps in and separates with 30 seconds to go. Stiff left lands from Magny to finish off the round. Magny completes his fourth takedown to secure the victory – likely.
