UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey carries the nickname “Rowdy,” as it was given to her by judo coach Gene LaBell. She will make history tonight in the first-ever UFC female fight, and a former WWE superstar is backing her 100-percent.
Rowdy Roddy Piper, who was a long-time staple in the pro wrestling world, sent out a message on Twitter in support of Rousey as she prepares to make her debut with the promotion.
“Rowdy Ronda Rousey is named after me,” Piper wrote. “Have the same coach, Judo Gene LaBell. I love her always in her corner.”
Piper was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, and had a series of matches with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and others during his career. He recently founded Portland Wrestling Uncut.
Rousey will face Liz Carmouche at UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche, and FightLine will have complete coverage of the entire event, including play-by-play and post-fight analysis.
