There’s a little bit of déjà vu happening as Ben Saunders makes his second appearance in a tournament final after yesterday’s Bellator 90. Across the cage from him will be teammate Douglas Lima, when the two meet in a rematch from their Season 5 welterweight tournament encounter.
While Saunders doesn’t like the idea of fighting a friend, he knows they have no choice as they look to secure a title shot.
“There should be no reason for me to fight my teammate, unless it’s in the finals of a championship tournament,” said Saunders on The MMA Report. “That’s the only reason to put us in there. Somebody has to loss and have their dreams crushed.”
Both left with knockouts in the semifinals to setup the rematch. The first encounter saw Lima take a decision win in the finals.
The Season 8 welterweight tournament is set to conclude at Bellator 93 from the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, ME on March 21. Bellator has not made the announcement official.
