With UFC 157 in its final stretch, bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has is eye on his own weight class for that card. Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar is the only bantamweight bout on the show and takes place on the main card.
“There’s nothing that stands out other than that 135 pound fight that I’m really interested in,” said Cruz to Yahoo Sports. “I’m watching them because they are in my division. You’ve got to just watch and see what kind of tricks are being used at my weight class. That’s the fight I am looking to watch.”
In that contest, both fighters will attempt to find a top spot in the bantamweight division which is considered to be low on potential opponents.
Faber dropped is only appearance last year to Renan Barao, resulting in the Brazilian becoming the interim bantamweight champion. Menjivar was 2-1 in 2012, with both wins being via submission in round one.
Cruz has been out with an ACL injury for well over a year. Barao recently defended the interim title as Cruz’s surgery didn’t take. The UFC has expressed interest in the two unifying the belts over the summer.
UFC 157 comes from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA this Saturday, February 23.
