Doug Lima is currently in the middle of the Season 8 welterweight tournament. As for his future, a move up in weight is looking like a strong possibility.
“I don’t know how much longer I can keep making the weight,” said Lima on MMA Junkie Radio. “It’s a big thing I’m thinking about right now – maybe even later this year. Let’s see how this tournament turns out, and let’s see what’s going to happen.”
Before any kind of move in weight class can happen, Lima meets Bryan Baker in the semifinals for Bellator. Lima won his last tournament, but was unable to take the strap from champion Ben Askren.
Lima noted that Bellator’s tournament format made it difficult to maintain weight. An average tournament fighter competes once a month over the span of 90 days.
The two meet at tomorrow’s Bellator 90 on the main card from the Maverik Center, Salt Lake City, UT.
