Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has his sights set on a featherweight bout with a rising contender. According to a report by UFC Tonight, Edgar wants to meet Cub Swanson.
Edgar’s manager informed Ariel Helwani that “The Answer” is looking to get back into the Octagon in a five-round fight with Swanson on either FX or FUEL TV. He added that if a spot on one of those cards is unavailable, he would be willing to fight at UFC 160: Silva vs. Velasquez II.
Swanson (19-5) staked his claim to a potential title shot by defeating Dustin Poirier recently. He has won four straight since a submission loss in 2011 to Ricardo Lamas.
Edgar (15-4-1) lost his third straight UFC title fight when he was bested by Jose Aldo earlier this month. He lost two matches to Benson Henderson involving the UFC lightweight title in 2012.
