Referee John McCarthy helped the UFC create the rules that are used today. One thing he didn’t have a hand in was the judging, which has come under fire lately.
“Overall it is better now than it was in the past, by far,” said McCarthy on The MMA Hour. “But the problem is we have so many more shows going on. There’s a lot of things that are happening. There’s some mistakes being made.”
McCarthy pointed out how the UFC judges don’t have an excuse as they have TV monitors next to them and can see all the angles.
At the post-fight media scrum for this past Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV, Dana White believed the score cards for Che Mills vs. Matt Riddle and James Te-Huna vs. Ryan Jimmo were wrong. White has been critical of judges scoring as of late, not afraid to chime in after each show about his displeasure.
