Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt has confirmed that he will compete for the UFC again in March, taking on Jake Ellenberger at UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz.
The card, which takes place March 16 from Montreal, will feature several 170-pound fights. The main event boasts Georges St-Pierre defending his title against Nick Diaz, while Carlos Condit faces Johny Hendricks in the co-main event.
Ellenberger was in need of a new opponent after Hendricks stepped in for an injured Rory MacDonald to face Condit. That left a spot for Marquardt to get back inside the Octagon.
“It’s official! I’m fighting Jake Ellenberger on March 16 in Montreal!” Marquardt posted on Twitter earlier today. “I (am) very honored to get such a fight. It’s gonna be a war.”
Marquardt previously fought for the UFC at middleweight, but moved to welterweight prior to debuting in Strikeforce last year. He won the title, but dropped it to Tarec Saffiedine this past January.
