If UFC officials call him, it appears Nate Marquardt would be a willing opponent for Jake Ellenberger at UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz.
Ellenberger was scheduled to meet Johny Hendricks, but Hendricks accepted a co-main event fight with Carlos Condit after Rory MacDonald was injured and forced out.
Marquardt recently returned to the UFC after claiming the Strikeforce title. He lost the belt in his last match with the promotion to Tarec Saffiedine this past January.
“Just heard (Ellenberger) doesn’t have anyone to fight March 23 (the card is March 16, which Marquardt later pointed out) as of today,” Marquardt wrote on Twitter. “Just so happens I’m free that night!;)”
Marquardt (32-11-2) was a former middleweight contender in the UFC before dropping down to 170 pounds upon leaving the promotion.
