Rory MacDonald challenged Carlos Condit for a rematch after he defeated BJ Penn and the fight was quickly made.
MacDonald just suffered a neck injury and is out of the UFC 158 rematch. Top welterweight Johny Hendricks now steps in to take on Condit.
“Once we knew Rory had to withdraw, we started looking for potential replacements,” said Dana White to USA Today. “Johny Hendricks called me and said he wanted that fight, so we’re going to give it to him a shot at Carlos.”
It’s not known if the fight will be placed as the co-main event.
Hendricks was expected to face Jake Ellenberger before the injury. No replacement has been named, but he is expected to remain on the card.
White offered the spot against Condit to the final Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine though he declined the fight.
UFC 158 comes from the Bell Centre in Canada on March 16.
