Even though Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos was granted her UFC release, she could make a return according to her manager and UFC hall of famer Tito Ortiz.
Ortiz plans to have Santos buildup a few wins out of Invicta FC and wait for the UFC to call about a fight with Ronda Rousey.
“Do three fights, show how dominant she can be in three fights, then we can negotiate and show what’s she’s truly worth,” said Ortiz on The MMA Hour. “I’m going to do my part as a promoter and manager of getting her name huge and showing everybody that she’s a force to be reckoned with and never to be forgotten.”
As Ortiz continued, he thinks the Rousey fight will happen as catchweight. He noted how Rousey would have the advantage, since it’s easier to add on five pounds than cut it.
On Friday, Ortiz held a press conference stating that Santos was granted her UFC release and will debut for Invicta FC against Ediane Gomes. The UFC had offered Santos a joint deal to compete for Invicta FC, but she turned that down.
Santos’ year plus return after a steroid suspension happens at Invicta FC 5 on April 5. It comes from the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, KS.
