On two occasions, Josh Koscheck earned himself a welterweight championship shot and failed both times. After coming off a split-decision loss to top contender Johny Hendricks, Koscheck plans to return with a better training camp.
“Before my last fight we kind of just put together something really quick and did some training,” said Koscheck on MMA HEAT.
Koscheck makes his first appearance in 2013, when he fights Robbie Lawler later this week.
“For this fight I’ve had plenty of time to get training partners, coaches, get a schedule going and to put good people around me to better myself,” said Koscheck. “I have a good structure and atmosphere to do all my training. It’s been good.”
Besides the loss to Hendricks, Koscheck took his other split-decision against Mike Pierce going 1-1 last year. Lawler had the same record last year out of Strikeforce. After an early TKO over Adlan Amagov, Lawler dropped a decision on the final Strikeforce card in January to Lorenz Larkin.
Lawler will be making his UFC debut when he takes on Koscheck at UFC 157 this Saturday, February 23. They meet on the main card from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
