Since Dominick Cruz is out indefinitely with an ACL injury that could spell the end of his career, the UFC must move forward with the interim championship as a replacement. Later today, at UFC on FUEL TV, Renan Barão looks for his first title defense against Michael McDonald.
Cruz, who will certainly be watching carefully as his next fight could be decided within those 25 minutes, gave the advantage to Barão as he has the better defense
“I think that’s going to be the difference maker,” said Cruz to MMA Junkie. “He’s also tough to take down, and I think he has a much better chance of taking McDonald down than the other way around.”
Barão comes into the fight riding 29 consecutive wins and McDonald has finished six of his last eight opponents.
Everyday Cruz said he thinks about getting back inside the Octagon after his ACL surgery didn’t take and he could miss up to another year of action. Cruz last fought in October 2011.
