Bellator 85 saw the promotion debut on Spike TV. To kick off the main card was Patricio “Pitbull” Freire looking to take Pat Curran’s featherweight championship. Curran retained via split-decision in what was the highest rated quarter during the two hour show.
“I want to bring Bellator’s attention to the fact that our fight broke viewership records in both the U.S. and in Brazil,” said Freire to MMA Junkie. “I’m not asking for any sort of compensation, other than to be booked for another fight as soon as possible.”
That fight dropped Freire to 5-2, while giving Curran his fifth straight win and first title defense.
Freire did the math and said the fight could happen at Bellator 93 in March. The return of either fighter is not known and that card currently has nothing announced.
