Wrestling Could Be Back In Olympic Games, As IOC Decides To Make It Part Of Vote

All those emails, Tweets and petitions may help save wrestling in the Olympics, as the International Olympic Committee has decided to place wrestling up for voting along with several other sports.

Jacques Rogge, the president of the IOC, will allow members to vote at a special meeting May 29-31 for inclusion into the 2020 Summer Olympics. Wrestling, baseball/softball, karate, roller sports, squash, sport climbing, wakeboarding and wushu will all be up for bid to be part of the event.

The top three sports voted on will be recommended to be included by membership vote in Buenos Aires. Duncan Mackay of Inside The Games first reported news of the inclusion of wrestling in the voting process.

Many MMA fighters have reached out and spoke up about the decision to cut wrestling. Several UFC stars grew up in wrestling, and some, such as Daniel Cormier and Dan Henderson, were part of the Olympic wrestling team.
