Doug “The Rhino” Marshall’s Bellator debut was a quick 22 second knockout of Kala Hose this past November. He will look for a repeat performance in the opening round of the Season 8 middleweight tournament as he challenges Andreas Spang.
“I stepped in there and did what I had to do against Kala Hose and made a statement,” said Marshall to MMA Junkie. “It’s back to business. Kala Hose was a knockout artist. All his wins were knockouts and he’d never been knocked out. But he stepped in there with ‘The Rhino’ and ended up taking a nap.”
Marshall spent the first half of his career as a light heavyweight, going as far as winning the WEC’s belt. Since cutting weight, he has become 6-3, with all but one win coming by knockout. Spang is coming off a loss in the finals of the Season 6 tournament.
The other parts of the tournament see Brian Rogers vs. Dan Cramer, Brett Cooper vs. Norman Paraisy and Sultan Aliev vs. Mikkel Parlo.
Bellator 89 airs tomorrow, February 14, from the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC. The headliner is a bantamweight championship fight with Eduardo Dantas defending against Marcos Galvao.
