Josh Barnett’s manger said earlier in the month that his client would not be rejoining the UFC as has passed on their contract. Even though Barnett is looking to compete elsewhere, UFC president Dana White has kept the offer out there.
“I know there’s an offer on the table for him,” said White. “If he wants to take it, it’s been offered. And if not, he’s always been his own guy, anyway.”
White called Barnett a “big boy” who could make his own decisions.
Barnett went 3-1 under the UFC name from 2000-2002. In his final fight, he won the heavyweight championship and was released after testing positive for steroids post-fight.
He would then hop around PRIDE, Affliction and Strikeforce. Barnett earned a first round submission on the final Strikeforce card against Nandor Guelmino earlier in the month.
What’s next for Barnett has not been revealed.
