After being the Bellator middleweight No. 1 contender for over a year, last week Alexander Shlemenko finally was granted his title shot and left with the gold against Maiquel Falcão.
During the weigh-ins, Shlemenko was shocked when Falcão pulled out his cell phone and acted like he was taking a call.
“It’s a sign of disrespect because we are both pro athletes,” said Shlemenko on Verbal Submission. “It pissed me off and made me mad. At the same time, I was kind of happy about that because I consider myself a kind person and surprisingly I’m not a big fan of beating people up. So when my opponent pisses me off, it makes it much easier to hurt him.”
It took Shlemenko two rounds to take the vacant title after knocking Falcão out last week.
The title change happened at Bellator 88 on February 7 from the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, GA.
