Sam Alvey was the first overall pick of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17, but didn’t get past the opening fight once he made it into the house. He is the co-main event for Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC) this week when he challenges middleweight champion Elvis Mutapcic.
“I’ve been rising through the ranks,” said Alvey on MMA Junkie Radio. “I got onto The Ultimate Fighter and it didn’t go the way I wanted it to. But prior to the show I had three or four big KOs.”
Alvey dropped a majority decision to Joey Rivera while on TUF. Like most other fighters that season, Alvey was not offered a UFC contract. He went 3-1 last year with all the wins coming by TKO in the first round. Mutapcic won his last four fights, including a pair out of MFC. He stopped each opponent.
MFC 36: Reality Check is this Friday, February 15, and comes from the Shaw Conference Centre in Canada. The main card airs on AXS TV with a headliner between Mukai Maromo vs. Graham Spencer for the promotion’s vacant lightweight title.
