Chad Mendes is eyeing an April return inside the Octagon after his fight with Manny Gamburyan was cancelled. Yesterday, it was announced that the UFC 157 encounter was scratched due to an injury on Gamburyan’s part.
Mendes’ manager Mike Roberts also declined rumors that his client opted not to fight former Strikeforce lightweight Justin Wilcox.
“We’d fight anybody,” said Roberts on MMA Junkie Radio. “Chad is the best, if not the second best guy in that weight division, period. Chad’s not going to turn anybody down. He believes he can beat anybody.”
On Twitter, Wilcox said it was true that Mendes didn’t want to take the fight on two weeks notice. He has not commented since Mendes disputed the claim.
Roberts suggested a new opponent is already in the works.
