As Eddie Alvarez and Bellator continue to disagree over contract negotiations, UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson wants to see Alvarez make the switch to the UFC.
“I hope Eddie makes it to the UFC,” said Henderson during a recent fighter Q&A. “It would be great to have him over, he’s a tough fighter. I’m a pretty big fan of Eddie. He would definitely up the level of competition. As a fighter, you want to face the best. The better fighters we have in the UFC, the better it is.”
Alvarez is currently in the middle of a situation. His Bellator contract is fulfilled and the UFC sent him an offer. As per Bellator stipulations, they had the right to match that offer and did so.
Alvarez argued that while the number of dates and money is the same, competing for Bellator on Spike TV is not even comparable to appearing on a UFC PPV. A judge recently denied Alvarez an injunction that would allow him to compete at UFC 159.
Henderson is undefeated in the UFC with six wins and reigns as their lightweight champion. He won the title last year and made two defenses in the same time period. His next fight is against the last Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez at UFC on FOX 7. That comes from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA.
