It was in January of 2011 that BJ Penn noticed his vision began deteriorating. The doctor informed Penn that a cataract was to blame for the recent poor sight. The eye disease has stalled the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion from returning.
“People ask me all the time if I’m going to fight again and I almost just want to change the subject because right now, I definitely don’t want to fight with a cataract in my eye,” said Penn on BJPENN.com.
Penn has not opened up about his future since his December defeat to Rory MacDonald, after returning from his original retirement which last about a year. That loss made him 1-4 since 2010 and caused UFC president Dana White to call for Penn to retire.
“If I go in the gym and I’m knocking down all my sparring partners and doing awesome I would definitely think of fighting again,” said Penn.
There has been official announcement from Penn if he will now retire.
