Several MMA ranking organizations have Anderson Silva and Jon Jones as the top three best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Chael Sonnen has studied the duo as he will have met both by the end of the spring.
“I think there’s a big gap between them,” said Sonnen on FOX Sports Radio. “I think that Jon Jones is considerably better, I think he’s the best talent our sport has ever seen.”
Silva has been champion since 2006 and has 11 defenses, with 12 bonuses for his performances. Jones won his gold in 2011 and has four defenses, all against former titleholders.
Sonnen is already familiar with Silva. He has suffered two losses at the hands of the middleweight champion. Sonnen meets Jones for the light heavyweight championship at UFC 159 on April 27 in Newark, NJ.
“Jon comes out there with something new every time,” said Sonnen. “Some trick that it appears he’s making up. Stuff I’ve never seen.”
