Lucas Pimenta went to cash his recent check from the Ultimate Warrior Fighting (UWF), but it bounced sending the Brazilian scrambling for cash. The payment involved his June win over John Malbrough and third straight for the promotion.
UWF was launched in 2011 with four shows based in Texas, but the lack of profit has been a major issue and now owner Oscar Enriquez finds his life savings gone.
“I’m not one of these promoters that took off running with the money,” said Enriquez to MMA Junkie. “I lost my whole entire life savings. I had to go back into the construction business to pay my bills.”
Enriquez claims Pimenta was the only fighter not paid.
Through the help of the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, Enriquez was granted two bonds worth $15,000. One is for taxes on the event’s gross receipts and the other to protect unpaid fighters.
