Chad Mendes is without an opponent for UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche after Manny Gamburyan suffered an injury in training recently. So, who will step in and face Mendes? He has an idea, and his name is Ricardo Lamas.
“So Manny’s out. How about we find out who the real number one contender is (Lamas),” Mendes posted on Twitter Friday night.
Lamas (13-2) has won four straight fights since entering the UFC, including a TKO over Erik Koch last month. He appeared poised to face UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, but “Scarface” will meet Anthony Pettis later this year.
Mendes (13-1) has lost a scheduled opponent for the second straight time, as he was set to tackle Hacran Dias late in 2012 before Dias pulled out with an injury.
The former No. 1 contender went on to defeat Yaotzin Meza, earning his second straight win since a loss to Aldo in 2012.
