What we know about Liz Carmouche is that she’s a heavy underdog, she lives a Spartan existence, and she teaches kids classes at the San Diego Combat Club when not chilling with her girlfriend. What we know about Ronda Rousey is that the UFC put her up in a temporary apartment so that she wouldn’t have to commute back and forth to her various gyms, that her trainer didn’t think much of her at first, and that there’s a world of hurt inside her when it comes to talking about her late father. The first female fighters in the UFC – and the headlining match-up for UFC 157 on February 23 – got the UFC Primetime treatment last night, and wow does it pack a punch. As must-see-TV goes, this one should be on the top of your list. Your news for today:
• Here’s the UFC Primetime episode featuring Rousey and Carmouche. Watch it with a box of Kleenex by your side.
• It must suck to be interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao. After all, the UFC he’s headlining is next weekend (February 16), and all eyes are already past his event and on UFC 157 the week after. Anyway, given the current trend of weight classes meaning nothing, if teammate Jose Aldo goes up a division to face the talent there, Barao will go up a class, too. What does any of that have to do with Ronda Rousey – am I right?
• Bellator’s 88th installment was last night, and MMAFrenzy’s Chris Leslie was on scene to witness Russian beast Alexander Shlemenko win the middleweight belt. Here’s MMAFighting’s take on the event, as well.
