The UFC will head to San Jose and the HP Pavilion on April 20 with UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Melendez. The card features UFC lightweight champion Benson Hendersong taking on former Strikeforce 155-pound champ Gilbert Melendez.
“Benson Henderson wants to beat Gilbert Melendez to prove once and for all that he’s the best lightweight in the world,” UFC president Dana White said. “Gilbert was a champion in Strikeforce and he’s been on an incredible tear. Benson wants this fight badly, and I’m excited that it’s headlining such a stacked card.”
Henderson (18-2) has won all six of his UFC bouts since coming over from the WEC. He has successfully defended his title against both Frankie Edgar and Nate Diaz.
Melendez (21-2) has won seven consecutive fights since a decision loss to Josh Thomson back in 2008. This will mark his Octagon debut.
Other bouts set for the card include Frank Mir-Daniel Cormier, Diaz vs. Thomson and Dan Hardy-Matt Brown.
