Cung Le is a man who wears many hats, throughout his martial arts career, he’s been called champion on many different platforms. In 2009, the sanda specialist took his aesthetically appealing, flashy striking style to the silver screen, landing his first major motion picture roles.
Needless to say, Le is used to stepping out of his own skin and playing a different role, but it’s what he has eyes on now that seems the most appealing to fans of mixed martial arts.
It was Ed Soares’ recent comments that UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva would love to face Cung Le next that brought the words out of the Vietnamese fighter. “When the Anderson Silva fight came up, I said one of the things I’d love to do is coach on the TUF show” said Le.
Cung has played the role of “Coach Le” in the past, as he told Rebellion media, “I’ve been teaching kids, and amateur and pro fighters for some many years, and I was the most successful coach for the United States kung fu team. The most the US had was two people who medaled in the world championships. The year I was assistant coach in 2003, I had Elaina Maxwell win a gold. In 2005 I was the only coach to have six people in the semifinals, two people in the finals, and four people win bronze medals.”
Le has already begun choosing some of his AKA brethren as his assistant coaches, should he get the call, “My trainer now is Scott Sheeley. I would definitely either ask Daniel Cormier or King Mo to come in and help out with wrestling. Jiu-jitsu-wise, I’d probably ask Marcelo Garcia to help”.
While it remains to be seen as to whether or not Cung will get the call to coach opposite Anderson, or anyone else, realistically, Le is ready to answer.
