Judges have been criticized louder than ever as of late. Cub Swanson looked at the UFC 156 main event, where featherweight champion Jose Aldo defeated Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision, and agreed with their call.
He scored it three rounds for Aldo and two for Edgar.
“[Aldo] looked better than ever for the first few rounds, then he started to wilt and Frankie started shining in the last couple rounds,” said Swanson to Bloody Elbow.
The judges scored the fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47. Aldo is now up to six championship defenses in a row out of the UFC and WEC. It was Edgar’s third loss in a row and first since as featherweight.
Swanson thought if Edgar had a little more practice, the ending could have been rather different.
“I really wish he had taken a fight before Jose, to kind of get used to that new weight class,” said Swanson. “I don’t think he was prepared for the pace of the 145 pound division.”
