Wanderlei Silva chimed in on who should be next for a UFC heavyweight championship shot now that the division has no clear No. 1 contender. He picked fellow Brazilian Fabricio Werdum as the greatest challenge to Cain Velasquez’s title.
“I think Werdum is the perfect guy to beat Cain Velasquez,” said Silva to TATAME. “If Fabricio gets a title shot, we’ll get another Brazilian heavyweight champion.”
Silva thinks that Werdum has advantage both on the ground and standing.
Werdum is coming off a pair of wins in 2012. He meets Antônio “Minotauro” Nogueira later this summer. Alistair Overeem had a chance to once again be in title contention before Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva knocked him out at UFC 156.
Next month, Wanderlei returns to the Octagon against Brian Stann on March 3 in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV. It comes from the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
