Mike Richman Didn’t Hesitate When Bellator Called

It was just this past November when Mike Richman’s dreams of earning a Bellator featherweight shot were ended. He made it to the semifinals of the Season 7 tournament, before being knocked out. When Bellator asked if he wanted another shot in the next season, Richman couldn’t resist.

“There was no hesitation,” said Richman to MMA Mania. “I wanted to get right back in the mix. I wanted to get in there and erase that last loss. I guess timing-wise from when that last fight was and when this tournament was gonna start, for me, I guess it all just worked out in my favor.”

Richman jumped right into Bellator and made it known quickly that he was a threat. He knocked out Chris Horodecki in 83 seconds and then entered the tournament. He made even quicker work of Jeremy Spoon in the quarterfinals, taking a 23 second knockout. Shahbulat Shamhalaev ended his run in the semifinals with another early round one finish.

Now, Richman meets Mitch Jackson in the opening of the Season 8 featherweight tournament. It will be Jackson’s debut for the promotion as he comes in on a seven fight win streak.

Bellator 88 will hold all the opening round fights of the tournament on Thursday, February 7. streams the preliminary card and the main fights air on Spike TV at 10 p.m. ET.
