Serving as host of UFC Tonight, Chael Sonnen offered up some insight into the recent Rashad Evans-Antonio Rogerio Nogueira match that went down at UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar. Nogueira earned a decision win in a match that did not feature much excitement.
“I don’t know who that was fight,” Sonnen said. “I contacted him and he said, ‘I hurt my hand in the first round and it killed my confidence. I didn’t have the confidence to attack. I was one-handed, so I couldn’t grapple.”
As one of the top wrestlers in all of MMA, Evans never shot for a takedown against the Brazilian. Instead, the two engaged in very few stand-up flurries, with Nogueira walking out of the cage with his hand raised.
The loss was the first for Evans against someone who was not a former or current UFC champion, as his only other career defeats came at the hands of Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida.
