Despite what UFC president Dana White stated recently, UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has no interest in meeting Daniel Cormier. The two are teammates at American Kickboxing Academy and long-time training partners.
“I would not fight (Cormier),” said Velasquez, during an appearance on UFC Tonight Tuesday. “He’s my coach, teammate and friend.”
Velasquez, who won the title from Junior dos Santos this past December, said he is targeting summer for his return to action.
However, who Velasquez will face remains a mystery. Alistair Overeem, the projected No. 1 contender, was knocked out by Antonio Silva recently.
Cormier is expected to make his UFC debut in April against Frank Mir at UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Melendez.
