The frenzy that the first official UFC rankings caused did not go unnoticed by the fighters, specifically Chael Sonnen. The outspoken No. 1 contender to the UFC light heavyweight title is not included in the Top-10 at 205 pounds.
Sonnen, who will face Jon Jones for the belt later this year, has not competed in the weight class for several years. His last fight was a loss to Anderson Silva at middleweight for the title.
“LHW – you might as well write the LHW rankings backwards because that’s about as much sense as it makes without me on top of them,” Sonnen posted on Twitter.”
Sonnen is currently a coach on The Ultimate Fighter opposite Jones. He worked his way into a title shot by accepting a fight with “Bones” last year on short notice, and remained in the spot even after Jones declined the match.
