Saad Awad On Quick Rise In Bellator Tournament

Saad Awad was the main event of Bellator 87’s preliminary card. An injury to Patricio “Pitbull” Freire a week out caused him to pull from the tournament. In stepped the alternative, Awad. He made the most of his opportunity by defeating Guillaume DeLorenzi with a 31 second TKO in round one.

“I came in prepared to go the full three rounds,” said Awad to MMA Interviews. “I expected it to go three rounds and have him bring it. I just caught him on the button real early. When he got up, he couldn’t really getup.”

The win now advances Awad to the semifinals of the Season 8 lightweight tournament. His previous Bellator appearance was 2010 and a loss to Diego Garijo.

“My hats off to [DeLorenzi], he was extremely tough,” said Awad.

Bellator 87 took place from the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, MI. The fight was on January 31.
